A couple of pages from last week

My scrapping has sadly slowed down since school started, but I managed to make two pages last week, both of them childhood memories.

I made this layout for the Color Combos Galore blog:

And here's another one that I made for Sketch This!. It's nice and sparkly and velvety in real life, but you can't tell from the scan:

Oh, Happy E-Mail Day!

So, I'm back to school and have't had much time on the computer lately, other than to do school stuff. Yesterday morning, I took a few minutes to wade through the hundred-plus e-mails in my e-mail box, and I was beyond thrilled to see two messages--one from Simple Scrapbooks and one from Scrapbook Trends--requesting layouts to be published in upcoming issues! Yay!

Monday Challenges

I had a busy weekend, so I combined this week's challenges for the Color Combos Galore and How Much Is Too Much? blogs. Janet sent us an absolutely delicious color scheme this weekend, and Fran challenged us to use 28 embellishments on a layout.

This one's going into my book of silly family photos. My nephew has the funniest expressions, and he doesn't even know it! My favorite thing about working on this album is trying to find a fun quote to match the picture.

I was delighted to use the little whale from a pack of K&Co. Grand Adhesions--a total impulse buy a couple of weeks ago. Plus I managed to continue my mission of using at least one really old supply on my page--I haven't used those Ki Memories ice embellishments in forever, but it was just the touch I needed for that 28th embellishment!

Here's the color palette we had to use:

Where Did Summer Go?

I'm trying to squeeze in that last bit of scrapping before school starts next week. Summer has flown by faster than it ever has before.

Here's a 2-pager I made for an ad inspiration challenge over at Two Peas using some photos from the amazing dinner we had in Las Vegas for our anniversary:

I made this page for Janet's Color Combos Galore blog. A really strange topic, I know, but I also made this for my Scrap Your Childhood challenge over at Two Peas. The theme for this week was accidents and mishaps. I had already scrapped a bunch of typical things like my broken finger and my sister falling through the ice, and I was wracking my brain about what else I could come up with and this popped into my head (notice I snuck in an ancient supply on here for my "mission"--a Rebecca Sower Attic Collection epoxy circle):

And I made this layout for the Sketch This! blog. Yeah, the squares are supposed to be a little crooked, only I wish I had tilted the squares on the top the opposite way so my layout didn't look crooked. I always notice the crooked things after I've sewn them on and it's too late to fix them! I sewed on some beads that I've had in my stash for a gazillion years.

Okay, I'm off to scrap again and try to eke out every little moment of summer I have left!

How Much Is Too Much?

Is 33 pieces of patterned paper too much on an 8 x 8 layout? I thought so at first when Joy challenged us to make a page using that many pieces of patterned paper for the How Much Is Too Much? blog. We also had to include 8 buttons and 4 tags. I managed to sneak in some old stuff on my page, which has been my scrappy mission of late--I use a little Pebbles tag that I've had for AGES.

So here's my page. That's my brother-in-law, and there's a glare on the hat, but it reads: "2nd Grade, Here I Come!" This one's going into my book of silly family photos. I just love trying to find the perfect quote to match a layout.

Seeing Red

I swear I saw red when I saw this combo. Maybe an orange-y red, but definitely a red.

When Janet and I were talking, we were trying to figure out a name for the colors, and she kept saying orange this and orange that--"How about orange peel?"

"Cool name, but I think the orange looks more red. How about blood orange?"

So I worked on my layout, and when I'm working on the color layouts, I always come back to my computer to make sure I have the right hues before I glue things down. And I was sure I did this time, too. My red was a tiny bit redder than the color swatch Janet had sent me, and my orange was a little paler, but I'd been working on this layout for almost three days, so I went with it.

Fast forward to the challenge being posted on the Color Combos Galore blog, and what do I see staring me in the face? Orange. Go figure.

So the question is: Am I color blind? Or do the colors just look different on the black background of the Color Combos Galore blog? [I'm thinking it's the latter because when I sent her my page, I said my mango is a little paler than it should be, and she kept assuring me it was the right color, and now that I see it on the CCG blog, that color, at least, does seem right on the money.)

Here's the swatch:

And here's my layout:
