Flower Tales {CSI Case File No. 70}

Case File No. 70 is open for investigation, and what an exciting reveal! Our new Detectives made their debut this week.

Here is the page I made. Clues I used...Evidence: flowers, metal, wood, fence, circles, mini brads, paint; Testimony: tuck journaling inside something, document spring.

That's my 93-year-old Gram, and LOVES flowers, so I thought it would be perfect to tell some stories about that for this spring challenge.

Here are some details. The fence and grass are cut with Cheery Lynn Designs dies. The wood paper on the fence is by My Mind's Eye. I found that butterfly online and printed it on photo paper and cut it out. The Spring Fever sign is a Making Memories sticker, mounted on black cardstock and hung with bake's twine.

I mixed up my own paint to match the palette. It really does match the swatch. For some reason, my camera did not like these colors. I wanted my title to be Flower Stories, but "Stories" didn't fit. I tried a bunch of different letter stickers, and they just didn't look right, so I went with "Tales." After I finished and photographed my page (which is always such an ordeal), I wished I'd called it Garden Girl. Sigh.

I tucked my journaling into an old Bazzill envelope I bought years and years ago. I typed out my story and punched the top. There was a little too much space between the punch and journaling, so I added that polka dot strip. My journaling is just some random things about my Gram loving flowers and reads:

Flowers make her happy. Spring brings her back to life after the gray deadness of winter. For as long as I can remember, Gram has loved flowers. Her face lights up when we bring her a bouquet of flowers, and she'll keep those blooms alive for weeks by storing them in the refrigerator. Seeing flowers in a store, makes her linger. And when she sees flowers in a garden or on a tree, she'll grab onto those blossoms and exclaim, "Look at that bloom!" I vividly remember Gram's spring gardens full of tulips and azaleas and bright yellow forsythia bushes in the yard, and to this day, when I smell hyacinths, it's Gram I instantly think of. Both times we bought our houses, Gram was more interested in our yard and what we planned to plant than the decor inside. How she loves to share her flowery advice! It's sad that Gram no longer has her own garden, but she does keep plants and flowers in her bedroom and she gets to enjoy Mom's pretty gardens. Gram and her flowers. They will forever be her happy-ness.

As I was looking for a flower in my pink flower drawer to use, I came across this ANCIENT laser-cut flower, and thought it would be fun to use it as a sort of sun. Those little striped brads are also ancient--they're by Queen & Company. Papers I used are by Simple Stories (the pink and bold green stripes), and AC Dear Lizzy (the thinner stripe). I used two Crafter's Workshop templates for the background. I used green ink on the one and black marker on the other.

Here's an old Sassafras Lass brad that I'm glad I finally got to use. I tucked in some old vellum scraps, and the leaves are by Cheery Lynn Designs.

You MUST go check out the fabulous pages by the design team and guest designers--it's a HUGE reveal--33 layouts! And we have 5 prizes this month, donated by Flying Unicorn, plus the five Star Witness prizes, donated by Scrapbook Fantasies.

I was wondering & wondering & kept reading to find out about that flower...laser cut... I was hoping you hadn't done it on your Silly machine, other wise I'd feel obliged to give it a go, cos it really does set off the page, I reckon. LOVE it...& please tell me your Gram is NOT 93 in this photo...otherwise I'm gonna be VERY depressed. She looks fabbo:):)) Oh...& garden girl is such a great title:):):) LOL!!!!!!!

OK......first of all, Gram is 93???? She looks at least 30 years younger.....at LEAST!
LOVE your page, Debbi! Such sweet journaling and I love the little scene you created with the garden gate. Fabulous layers! So love the pops of black you added. And always so inspired how you incorporate old stash items into your designs. I so remember those laser cut flowers. Think I still have some in white. ;)
