Best Friends {CSI Case File No. 184}

We've got a lovely Major Case File open for investigation at CSI: Colr, Stories, Inspiration, and since it's a Major Case File, it's open for the entire month, and the creator of our five favorite layouts will be invited as guest designers.

Here's my page. Some of you know that my {step}dad died two Christmases ago, and I've been creating an album for Mom. This is a page for that book. Clues I used: Evidence -- stars, animals, triangles, circles, banners, fruit, crown, gems, glitter, grid pattern. Testimony -- handwrite on a series of labels, inspiration words: love, joy.

Here are some details. That background paper is super old--by We R Memory Keepers, and it was the perfect color to match the palette. I've also used some old Chatterbox and K&Co (the green papers). The gray heart paper is by Pebbles. Such a sweet pattern. The pink stripe is what's on the back of that one. The speech bubble is cut from an older Echo Park paper. The little dog is a puffy sticker. That cherry flair is by American Crafts, and the chipboard bits on my page are all by MAMBI. I stuck a little gold heart charm on Teddy, my mom's sweet dog. His eyes are dark, so it's hard to see his face.

The triangles are a cut file from Silhouette. The fabric bird brad is by BasicGrey, I believe. I just took all my brads out of their packaging and sorted them by color, so I can't remember for sure. The labels I journaled on are by 7Gypsies.

The glittery heart sticker is by K&Co. They come in a bunch of different colors and are perfect for adding clusters of embellishments.

I hope you'll come by and play. We've got lots of great sponsors--Bo Bunny, Carolina Ghelfi Scrapbooking, Flying Unicorn, Heartfelt Creations, Scrap Matrix, and Scrapbook Fantasies.

DT Work for 2Crafty

It's my turn to share my work on the 2Crafty blog today.
Here are three layouts I made
using the awesome 2Crafty chipboard.

"#Happy"

These beautiful girls are my husband's nieces.
I'm making a book for Mehrnaz, and I gave her this page
when she visited a couple of weeks ago.

How awesome is this Bubbly Reed Panel
Such a cool backdrop for a photo.
I used some circles from the Circles sheet
to sort of extend the panel to the edge of my page.
I coated them with white embossing powder
to give them a crisp look against the kraft background paper.

I used red stamp ink to color the Funky Heart and then inked the edges with black ink.
The title came from the 6 X 6 Summertime sheet and was the perfect size to layer over the photo.

"Summer Fun"

I fell in love with these awesome 2Crafty palm trees,
and this picture my mom, sister, and nephew posing with their parrot hats
at the Jimmy Buffett concert seemed the perfect opportunity to us them.

I covered the palm fronds with green paper
and then stamped it to give it texture.
The trunks were colored with brown stamp ink.
I painted the "Fun" title from the Summertime sheet and Funky arrow yellow
and outlined them with a pen to give these elements
a sort of cartoon-y feel I was going for with this page.

I thought the center of the nested Zig Zag circles looked like a sun,
so that's what I made it. I painted it yellow and added a Circle Word
misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine, which gave it a fun shimmer.

The Polaroid Frames are handy for tucking into the layers to add a bit of fun.
I painted mine yellow and saved the other part for a future layout.

"Blizzard"

That's my step-dad who passed away last year.
I gave this page, along with several others, to my mom for Christmas.
I made this layout for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration, using this Case File:

How beautiful is this 2Crafty Fine Snowflake
It's a little big for my 8 x 8 page, but I love it so much,
I wanted to make it a highlight of my page,
and I framed part of it to draw attention to it.
I embossed the snowflake with a white embossing powder
that has silver glitter in it to give it a frosty shimmer.

I used pewter embossing powder on many of the other pieces,
like the Chevron Bits. I love how those pieces can draw your eye
to a photo or other element that deserves attention.

The Alpha Set 1 is a perfect size to create your own title.
I embossed the letters with the same pewter,
and I used a blue embossing powder for the Folk Heart.

2Crafty Design Team Work for December

It's my turn to share my December work at the 2Crafty Blog.

"Merry & Bright"

That's my mom and my step-dad, who passed away last Christmas.
I've been working on a scrapbook for my mom, and gave this page to her,
along with some others I recently made, for Christmas.
I had this idea of hanging ornaments from the top of the page.
2Crafty has a lovely assortment of Christmas ornaments and baubles,
but I didn't have any, so I had to get creative.
I found the perfect 2Crafty pieces to create ornaments.
The chain length borders were a perfect way to hang the baubles I created.
I used platinum embossing powder to give the chains some shine.
I added a Mini Reindeer to a Word Circle to give it a Christmas feel.
I wanted my page to sparkle and shine, so I used glitter and embossing powder
with a glitter finish on all the chipboard pieces.

A glittered Heart Silhouette with a "Noel" from the Christmas Mini Word Pack
transformed a heart into a Christmas ornament.

The "Merry" in my title is also from the Christmas Mini Word Pack
The lovely gold scrollwork on the sides of my pictures were cut from
the Parisian Border--one of my absolute favorite 2Crafty pieces.

"Hello Wonder"

I flipped seasons and made a summery layout
featuring a picture of my adorable nephew holding a praying mantis.

I just love using 2Crafty's Circle Words as part of a title.
I coated mine with white embossing powder.

How cool is this Hessian Patch Panel? I chose this piece to mimic
the stick-like shape of the insect.
It adds such awesome texture and is perfect layered
underneath other elements.
I left mine raw to give it an outdoorsy feel.

I love the fun whimsy of this arrow from the Funky Arrows set.
I coated mine with orange embossing powder.

How sweet and lovely are the cursive Mini Words
Because they're so thin and delicate, they're perfect for layering over a photograph.

I used part of a Polaroid Frame as an additional layer.
Cutting just enough from a chipboard piece to peek out
of the layers enables you to use the rest of it on another layout.
I inked it and then added some Heidi Swapp Color Shine to give it a shimmer.

"Friends"

I made this page for my niece-in-law.
I used Case File No. 141 from CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration.

One of the Evidence clues was to use Glossy Accents,
and that's how I made the branch from Heidi's Vines so shiny.
First, I painted the piece green and then added the Glossy Accents.
I cut the vine in half to make it extend from one end of the
picture to the other.
