Say Gesso - CSI Case File No. 7

We have a lovely, quirky, challenging palette this week at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration:

Did you ever make a layout that you just loved but when you photographed it and got it up on the screen you didn't like the way it looked? That's what happened this week, but that's okay--like I said, I really like my page in real-life, even if it didn't quite translate on the monitor. I think my camera didn't like the colors.
Clues I used: Evidence - distressing, wood, metals, straight + organic shapes; Testimony - 3-2-1, grocery list, the roots.

It's a funny story, which I fully journaled on the back of my page: Tracee, Fi, and I were all video-skyping one day, and someone asked, "How do you say gesso?" Fi and I both agreed that it was pronounced with a soft g, but Tracee insisted it was pronounced with a hard g, like "guess-o." After arguing back and forth, I decided I needed to invite Howjsay.com to our little party to settle the debate. So I punched in the letters and out came j's voice, loud and clear "Gesso [soft g], Italian gesso.] I rolled my mouse over it again and again, and Tracee conceded that Fi and I were right all along in the most hilarious fashion. I still periodically get a giggle by pulling up j to say gesso when we're skyping. Tracee's response? "Guess-o, English guess-o."

I used Jenny Evans's sketch that's posted over on our sponsor's blog.

Here are some details. As I often do with color challenges, I got to use some old stuff from my stash, including these plastic letters by Heidi Swapp from eons ago. The mint green ledger paper is by My Mind's Eye, and the mint green polka dot is by BasicGrey (Hopscotch collection).

I took liberties with the 3-2-1 prompt because I had limited space for journaling on the front.

The flowers on my layout are from a really old MAMBI Chester paper. The colors were perfect. The white metal flower in the center of the button is by Making Memories.

And tht purple, pink, and white strip is also old--it's Love, Elsie. The red polka dot paper is by Luxe Designs.

The cute little mice on my layout are from a Sassafras Lass paper. That flowery button is made of wood--to go with the wood part of the Evidence list. I was near completion of my layout when I found the pink speech bubble and knew I had to include it on my layout, which meant I had to flip my whole page to accommodate it. (The curses of scrapping 8 x 8--you just can't always fit things the way you want them to fit.)

And here's a peek of another old paper--Ki Memories. It's shimmery, and I used it because of the text print--to go with my story. Oh, and I used some ancient eyelets! Yay me!

You should definitely come see what the rest of team made with this challenging palette--truly outstanding work once again!

Thank you for stopping by my blog and reading about my page today!

FANTASTIC Debbi! These colors were tough this week...I can see why the camera 'didn't like 'em''. But love the layout and especially the story behind it. Hugs!

Ha, that's so funny, what a fun friend you have. Thanks for sharing the story. I love this page, the little mice, the gummy "say Gesso" title, the details are totally cute, and even though it may not match real life, it's pretty fabulous anyway! I just adore this color palette by the way, the red and gray really cut the sweetness of the other colors, and make for a fun vintage-y look.
